Your Invitation to Join the Conversations

You are invited to visit and join in the conversations in the VFW Membership Forum, over 150 members strong and growing.

The forum is a central location in the VFW WebCOM Network where we cross pollinate ideas, look for lost buddies, connect the things that work and discuss those things that aren’t.

Feel free to link to your post weblogs if you have a story to share with all membership or if you see an interesting article somewhere on the internet that you feel more veterans might be interested in, by all means, share that too.

As this board becomes more active, we may also seek your help in moderating one or more sections of the Forum, so if you’re interested in playing a bigger role let one of the Admins know.

VFW Testifies Before Presidential Commission on Care for America's Returning Wounded Warriors

WASHINGTON, April 23, 2007–VFW Executive Director Robert Wallace recently testified before the Presidential Commission on Care for America’s Returning Wounded Warriors with respect to the seamless transition.

The VFW is calling for changes to the disability-review process and how the military evaluates disabled military personnel.

"The VFW’s vision is that of one unified record," Wallace said. "When a man or woman signs their enlistment papers, an electronic file is created that stays with them, wherever they are transferred. This file should contain important personnel information, deployment information, but also be a medical record, indicating any illnesses or injuries the servicemember suffers," adding that the VFW then wants the file to be transferred to VA where it can be accessed quickly and routinely updated with later medical issues.

A seamless transition, Wallace said, is critical for the quick adjudication of any disability claims the individual may file. Read VFW testimony for seamless transition for returning wounded warriors

The Presidential Commission on Care for America’s Returning Wounded Warriors was set up after the disgraceful incidents at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and intends to look at all aspects of health care and treatment for our wounded warriors.
